RED DAHLIA

 ENTRYWAY LAYOUT

If it is only a crossing room, the entrance is certainly the most important one where the layout and decoration should not be neglected.

Indeed, as the adage says so well, we make an impression on someone in the first seconds.

Your entrance not only announces your home style but it is also the first place that cuts you off from the outside world.

Therefore, it must be reassuring, welcoming and, above all, functional.

Furthermore, it is the perfect place to try bolder colors and patterns that you are afraid to use in other rooms.

But be careful not to break the perspectives and make the space narrow.

Here is a simple method for a smart layout in your entryway.

1/ THE OPENING DIRECTIONS OF DOORS AND WINDOWS

For an efficient layout, take into account the opening direction of doors and windows before anything else.

This will determine where to place your storage and the door opening systems you can have.

It will also determine your mirror and lighting positions.

Note that we avoid having a mirror facing the door cause it will bring an akward feeling.

2/ THE CIRCULATION

The entryway is rarely a room with a lot of space.

However, it is for sure the place where we accumulate a lot of things and where the need for storage is the biggest.

Once you have determined where to place your storage, pick a type of furniture that doesn't disturb the flow.

We often recommend to use the ceiling height, to choose a small depth, sliding doors.

And, if possible to place the closets into a wall.

Another solution is to go for wall-mounted storage. In fact, removing the furniture from the floor will increase the feeling of space.

Finally, if you have a more than adequate width in this room, consider choosing furniture with clean lines and light feets.

3/ THE CONNEXION WITH OTHER ROOMS

Whether it is a matter of layout or decoration, the third criterion you must look at is the connexion with the other rooms.

In most cases, the entrance is either open on the living room or even the kitchen; or it opens onto a corridor.

In the first case, it will be necessary to harmonize the colors, materials and furniture with the connected rooms.

Otherwise there is always the claustra option to isolate your entrance without losing brightness.

If your entrance opens onto a corridor, you can be bolder in terms of decorative choices.

But in this case, you will have to pay attention to the perspective of the space which can change depending on the colors and coverings.

4/YOUR NEEDS

Once you have chosen and placed your storage, picked a decorative theme, ask yourself what your main needs are.

In a standard entrance layout, we generally place storage, a seat, a mirror, and lighting.

But for your entrance to fully meet your expectations, break down your routine when you enter or leave your home.

Indeed, if for example, you regularly change your shoes, pick a shoe storage to prevent them from accumulating on the floor.

If you often come home with your arms full, it will be more pleasant to have a small bench to drop everything on.

If you are in a rush in the morning with the children to handle, you can choose a seat with hooks so that your mini you has everything within reach.
