HOME OFFICE LAYOUT
With the rise of home office, it's now key to arrange a proper workspace in our interiors.
Working on the kitchen counter is clearly over !
You can dedicate a whole room to your workstation or place it in a shared space.
In any case, you have to prioritize your comfort and your concentration when thinking about the layout and the decoration.
Furniture has to be ergonomic, the space layout might be functional, the room has to be visually clean and brightness is a priority.
To match all of these requirements and work in the best conditions, here is a simple method you can follow.
1/ FIND THE RIGHT SPOT
It might be obvious but finding the right spot for your workspace is not that easy.
Indeed, the perfect place needs to meet several expectations .
First of all, brightness is A priority.
So, try to place your workstation close to a window, without being directly exposed to the sun.
And of course try not to have the windows in your back to avoid reflections on your screen.
In a second time, pick a place where you know you won't be too bothered, especially if you choose a spot in an already occupied room.
That's why the kitchen is a NO but the living room and the bedroom usually work.
In a shared room, we recommend you to separate visually the workstation and if possible, try to create as much intimacy as you can.

2/ ADAPT THE SPACE LAYOUT TO YOUR JOB TYPE
Once you've found the perfect spot, think about your workspace layout depending on your profession needs.
Indeed, your job type will influence your furniture choices and the room arrangement.
For instance, a person with a creative profession will probably need a pinboard and a bookshelf placed in a spot separated from all the paperwork.
Other jobs require a lot of technological elements.
Therefore you need to have an appropriate size of desk, a comfortable chair and a system to hide all the cables.
You get the idea !
Now, to identify your needs properly, answer these 3 questions by looking at your daily work routine:
- What are the most cumbersome elements in your workspace ? (electronics, paperwork,...)
- What elements do you need to have closeby on a daily basis ? (files, printer, diverse tools, stationeries,...)
- Does your workspace need to fill specific functions ? (clients appointments, messy work tasks,...)

3 /FIND THE BALANCE BETWEEN DESIGN AND ERGONOMICS

Comfort might be the key criteria when it comes to choosing the furniture.
But it doesn't mean you have to forget about THE look.
Indeed, impersonal furniture will have a negative impact on your motivation.
Also, if your workstation is placed in the living room or the bedroom, the whole decor will have to be harmonious.
To do the right choices, determine your decorative style from the beginning and try to stay close to it as much as you can.
It shouldn't be a huge challenge as there are a lot of ergonomics and design chair/desk options on the market.
Otherwise, you can still choose neutral options or a similar fabric you already have in the room.
Light sources can also be quite useful to decorate your workspace.
You can absolutely use different lamps: some functional ones and some decorative ones with a more assertive look.
4/USE DECORATIVE OBJECTS SMARTLY
As we mentioned earlier, your workspace has to reflect your personality and using decoration is the best way to achieve it.
Your only limit is to avoid distractions and visual overload.
In general, we can be bolder on the floor decoration vs the walls.
For instance, we'll avoid using a printed wallpaper and we'll replace it by a printed rug.
We'll also avoid accumulating frames on the walls and we'll rather turn to strong decorative stationary to highlight our style.
Note that plants are an incredible asset to decorate your workspace.
They go with every decorative style and they have a positive impact on your efficiency and your concentration levels.
Moreover, they can also be used to create intimacy.

3/ USE "FRIENDLY" COLORS
As there's nothing sadder than a grey workspace, we highly recommend you to use colors.
Wallpaper is to be avoided, but wall paint has a lot of advantages.
Indeed, it can visually separate your office area from the rest of the room if it's placed in a living room or a bedroom.
Depending on the chosen color, it can also be a strong source of energy for you.
Blue shades, especially light ones, will bring you quietness and help your concentration.
Green will play the same role and also prevent you from going through visual strain.
Yellows will bring you positiveness and dynamism thanks to their stimulating side.
You just have to be careful on your color choice with the brightness of the room, especially if you go for a dark shade.

4/STORAGE, STORAGE AND STORAGE
We'll never say it too many times but you need to have enough storage !
Your workspace has to be comfortable visually, allow you to concentrate and it has to bring you serenity.
To do so, you have to get adapted storage solutions matching your needs.
Moreover, they're key if your desk is placed in a shared space like the living room so you can easily disconnect at the end of the day.
It doesn't mean though that you have to pick only closed storage.
We prefer to recommend you to mix storage options: closed drawers with design open shelves for instance.
Cabinets, wheeled sideboard, modular bookshelf: choose one that matches your needs and is adapted to the size of the dedicated space.
